Parents of Highly Sensitive Kids, Ages 2 to 10: Stop the Daily Meltdowns and Power Struggles, Starting With You, Not Your Child

Your child's nervous system cannot find calm inside a home where yours hasn't found it first. That's why Stabilize, Repattern, Reconnect starts with you, not your child.

Here's Just a Fraction of What You'll Learn

My Three Phase System:

1. Stabilize

The Problem: You've been told the answer to a meltdown is a better consequence or more consistency. But a consequence delivered into a nervous system that's already gone offline doesn't land as a lesson. It lands as more overwhelm.

The Solution: Stabilize, the first key, teaches you what to do with your own body in the fifteen seconds before you respond, so you're no longer adding a second activated nervous system into a room that already has one.

2. Repattern

The Problem: You've tried validation phrases and you've tried sticker charts, and the same power struggle keeps showing up the next day in a different costume.

The Solution: Repattern, the second key, teaches you how to decode what your child's behavior is actually signaling, then hold a boundary that doesn't turn into a negotiation, so the same fight stops repeating itself.

3. Reconnect

The Problem: The meltdown ends, everyone calms down, and you move on. It feels like the kind thing to do, but the conflict gets buried, not resolved.

The Solution: Reconnect, the third key, teaches you the short repair conversation that closes the loop a hard moment opens, so trust compounds instead of quietly eroding.

Check YES if:

☐ Yes, I'm the parent of a highly sensitive child between 2 and 10, and most days feel like I'm bracing for the next meltdown instead of just living my life with my kid.

☐ Yes, I've already tried gentle parenting, scripts, the books, maybe even therapy, and I'm tired of starting over with the next thing that's supposed to work.

☐ Yes, I want the meltdowns to be shorter, less frequent, and less intense, without yelling, bigger consequences, or another chart to fill out.

☐ Yes, I'm ready to understand the one piece that's actually been missing, instead of collecting more scripts.

☐ Yes, I want a system, not another set of tactics that works for three days and quietly stops.

Your Host:

I'm Heather Curtin, and I help parents of highly sensitive kids stop the daily meltdowns and power struggles, starting with their own nervous system instead of one more technique aimed at their child.

On paper, I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a child and family therapist with over ten years in private practice, working directly with kids and the families around them.

I didn't always have this figured out, even with all that training behind me. With my first child, I could not calm myself down in the hard moments. I'd react explosively, get sharp, raise my voice, despite spending my workdays teaching other families exactly how to regulate their nervous systems. I went day after day feeling exhausted before the day even started, dreading the next meltdown, watching my own patience wear thinner every week.

When I got pregnant with my second child, I knew I had to break that pattern, for me and for both of my kids. That's when I built Stabilize, Repattern, Reconnect, not as a theory for a textbook, but as the sequence I needed to survive my own house. I used it on myself first, and I still use it today, with two kids instead of one and a louder, more chaotic house than I started with.

I've spent over a decade sitting across from families in private practice, and I've lived this exact problem in my own home. What I believe, underneath all of it: your child's nervous system cannot find calm inside a home where yours hasn't found it first. My calm is the intervention, not the next script.
